JANUARY: from the Latin "Ianuarius", the month dedicated to the god Janus. A character who had two faces, as any I know! (You noooo)
FEBRUARY: from the Latin "februarius". Month that evokes ancient festivals dedicated to the dead that lasted throughout the month. They were called "februaria".
MARCH: from the Latin "martius". Again the god Mars does not come out here because besides being the god of war, was also revered as a deity of vegetation. For this reason, as that begins in late March and consequently spring vegetation, it was dedicated this month.
APRIL: from the Latin "aperire" which means open. As you know during this month the flowers bloom and spring breaks. Some historians believe it also can be dedicated to "aper" boar that was worshiped by the Romans or its etymological root comes from "Aparas" an oriental word meaning "next", that is, after the first month, and for the Romans, this was the second month of the year. So far ... no more confusion about it!
MAY: month dedicated to Maya, one of the seven daughters of Atlas Greek mythological characters and Pleyone. Also some historians suggest that it was the month dedicated to the elderly because the elderly in Latin is "maiorum".
JUNE: the Latin "Junius". Month dedicated to the goddess Juno. Highly revered by the girls who were going to give birth and among married women.
JULY: month dedicated the consul Marco Antonio Emperor Julius Caesar.
AUGUST month dedicated to the Roman emperor Caesar Augustus.
SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER: the names of these four months derived from the Latin words "septem", "octo", "nove" and "decem"; that is, the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth month of early Roman calendar.
